2020 Audi Q3 Dynamic ADAS Calibration: Ensuring Post-Collision Safety

So 2020 Audi Q3 dynamic ADAS calibration is complete, but you had to remove the bumper to fix a headlight. Another dynamic recalibration is in your future.

7 Step ADAS; The importance of being aware of all elements of the repair.

Introduction

Today, we’re working on a 2020 Audi Q3 that required several calibrations post-collision. We previously performed a 360 calibration and a forward-facing camera calibration on this vehicle. Now, we need to reperform the Q3 dynamic ADAS calibration due to the removal and reinstallation of the front bumper. Let’s dive into the process.

Overview of the Process

The dynamic ADAS calibration is essential because we had to remove the front bumper to address issues with the front right headlight. This process ensures that the front radar sensor is accurately calibrated, maintaining the vehicle’s safety and performance.

Setting Up for Calibration

We are performing the dynamic ADAS calibration on the New Jersey Garden State Parkway, a spot I frequently use for such tasks. The calibration process is managed using ODIS software. Here’s how we proceed:

  1. Preparation:
    • Ensure a stable internet connection.
    • Set up the ODIS software and select the correct options for calibration.
    • Address any warnings or error messages, such as tire pressure alerts, to avoid interference with the calibration.
  2. Starting the Calibration:
    • Begin the guided functions in ODIS and select the adjustment option.
    • The software will prompt you with instructions and provide an estimated time for completion.
  3. Dynamic Drive Calibration:
    • Drive on the parkway, following the software’s instructions.
    • Monitor the calibration progress on the screen.
    • The process typically takes around 19 minutes but can complete sooner based on previous experiences.

Completing the Calibration

Once the calibration is complete, Otis will display a green screen indicating success. Follow these steps to finalize the process:

  1. Post-Calibration Instructions:
    • Pull over to a safe spot, such as a rest stop.
    • Turn the engine off and the ignition on as prompted by the software.
    • Continue following the instructions on the screen until the calibration is confirmed as successful.
  2. Verification:
    • Conduct a short test drive to ensure the calibration was successful.
    • Test the adaptive cruise control by setting it to the New Jersey speed limit of 65 mph.
    • Adjust the distance settings to observe how the vehicle responds to traffic conditions.
    • Confirm the functionality of other systems like the blind spot monitor and lane assist.
