Radar Alignment & Parking Sensor Registration: Using 7 Step ADAS For 2 Calibrations on a 2018 Toyota Camry
Join us as we hit the road, aiming to seamlessly complete the calibration with no surprise
Intro To Radar Aiming & Parking Sensor Registration
Today, we’ll be demonstrating how to perform two separate ADAS calibrations on a 2018 Toyota Camry, with 7 Step ADAS. This session will cover the millimeter wave radar calibration and the parking assist intelligence clearance sonar registration, following a minor front-end accident.
Step-by-Step Calibration Process
Tools and Setup
We use a variety of tools to ensure precise calibrations:
- Protective blanket
- Texa lasers
- Millimeter rulers
- Bosch squares
- Custom-made tools for specific calibration needs
Initial Steps
- Check Tire Pressure: Ensure all tires are inflated to the manufacturer’s specifications.
- Create Center Line: Use targets to align a laser down the side of the vehicle, establishing a precise center line.
- Set Front Line: Measure 3,000 mm from the center line to set the front alignment line.
- Measure Sensor Angles: Using the provided charts and tools, measure the height and angles of the sensors.
Millimeter Wave Radar Calibration
- Align the Radar: Use lasers to ensure the radar is perfectly perpendicular to the vehicle.
- Perform Calibration: Use the Techstream software to execute the radar calibration. Start with a misalignment reading, followed by an offset reading, and finish with the axis adjustment.
Parking Assist Sonar Registration
- Measure and Record Data: Measure the height and angle of each sensor and record the data.
- Enter Data in Software: Input the recorded data into the Techstream software to complete the sonar registration.
Lessons and Insights
Throughout this process, we emphasized the importance of:
- Accuracy: Ensuring all measurements and alignments are precise to avoid errors during calibration.
- Documentation: Saving all relevant information and measurements for future reference and insurance purposes.
- Practice: Continuous practice and learning to improve efficiency and accuracy in ADAS calibrations.
Conclusion
By following this structured 7 Step ADAS approach, we successfully completed the necessary calibrations for the 2018 Toyota Camry within an hour. This method saves time and ensures a high level of precision, crucial for the safety and functionality of modern ADAS-equipped vehicles.
